BON CHEW & COWCOW,
to celebrate the Lighthouse Day with Rosy and da boyz, we show you da spookiest place of brittany:
LE PHARE DE TÉVENNEC
Located in Finistere at Raz du Sein, the lighthouse was built in 1869 and in service since 1875 to be technically a kind of guarding rail for ships together with the lighthouse Ar Men. Because of the ginormous current and the mighty tides , RAZ means “giant current” in breton, a security system was essential, because a lot of ships went down there with men& mice. And what the sea takes there no one can bring back from the deep, so it was a bad deal for the ship owners and lots of them went down with their tubs…
The lighthouse is hard to reach, so the lighthouse keepers who wanted this job were very rare… They had to stay for one year on this rough rock and even after the authorities agreed that the wife of the keeper can stay with him (for an annual salary of 50 francs, uh-huh how generous!) it was not easy to find a “Jack Torrance” who accepted this challenge…
Quickly rumours came up about lighthouse keepers who died suddenly and under mysterious circumstances and who went mad and committed suicide or murder suicide… Those who survived because they immediately quitted this job said at night they heard the voices of the dead sailors and the screams of the lost souls…. They also saw sea monsters and lights on the ocean and scary shadows in the fog….
Some years ago sciencers discovered that the rock is undermined with caves and tunnels and with the strong tides the water and the outgoing air cause this scary noises… maybe… butt maybe not…
Since 1910 the lighthouse is abandoned … butt is it actually an empty place? Maybe… butt maybe not…
We stick with the stories the eye witnesses told and we are sure that there is more behind this place than just a “natural phenomenon”… this is brittany, the magic non-france and this is Finistère… and there is a reason that for the saying : TOUT COMMENCE EN FINISTÈRE…
The mama would like to live there, but sadly such fab places like the lighthouse or the Fort Cigogne are NOT for sale… specially not to mamas people who are impawlitically like somewhat and who confuse a$$ kissing with a$$ kicking…. Our dad would like to live there too, with 364 stormy days the delivery of illegal goods from online shopping orgies would be a mission impawsible … just saying… and we have no boat nor a truck to pull it and to imagine the mama behind the stick of a howl-i-copter is much more horrible than all the sea monsters and ghosts of brittany…
HAVE A BRIGHT LIGHTHOUSE DAY ALL
I would like to live there too…. But during storms should be so fearfull…. Thank you, have a nice and enjoyable day, Love, nia
What a grrreat lighthouse. Your Mama should definitely live there, and we’re confident that with her creative powers she would somehow find a way to on-line shop…
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Lighthouses are wonderful! #1 has never been to Finistere but she hears it is a wonderful place.
Woofs,
Tommy
Wow, I never heard of that lighthouse tale. You look like sweet little dragons…butt…um…well, you know!
We have such a haunted place in Oregon. Ghosts seem to like that kind of thing! I think we will stick to dry land!
Pawsome….if you do move there can I visit, it sound really intriguing!
Loves and licky kisses
Princess Leah xxx
WOW! That’s quite a tale of the sea and the lighthouse on a haunted island! I think that would be a fabulous place to live…..but I’m sure your Mom would go nuts not being able to go to her trashure store and what about that wonderful meat warehouse you get your sausages and stuff from??? Unless they all deliver by drone or helicopter you are OUT OF LUCK. Maybe it’s best to stay where you are – where all things are possible????
Hugs, Teddy
What a beautiful lighthouse with a great setting!
Nice looking lighthouse. The closest one to us is about a three hour drive. In Germany we could see Westerhever from the beach, but that is too far to see from here in our US house.
Ohhhhhh Overlook Twins you did yourselves proud today. What a fabulous story about this must intriguing LE PHARE DE TÉVENNEC. There is just something about the coast line anywhere that makes one thing of magical/scary/funny mysteries. We loved you in the last photo.
Mom and I thank you very much for introducing all of blogville haunting tale and for pawticipating
Hugs madi your bfff
Hello, beautiful lighthouse and view. Thanks for sharing the story. Enjoy your day!

Crikey, that’s close to being worthy of FFF!!! I do know there were some issues for the loneliness of such places, but this one is extra special, heh na? Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
That really would be a special place to live, nice choice guys!
Very interesting and creepy about the ghosts and the screams of lost souls. I don’t think I would like to live there because if I thought I was isolated in the country this is a whole escalated kind of isolation. I think it would be cool to visit though!
They probably went crazy from boredom.
Oooh, these lighthouses are sounding skeery! I think I’ll stay here where it’s dry.
You never know when a boatload of shoes or mermaids might wash up on shore…
yes, you are right… maybe some containers will land there ;O))) … and with my streak of bad luck there are tp rolls inside or egg slicers and such crap…
eeek this looks like a job for a hermit not the mama!
Another DIY project of your peeps?
better not… the howlicopter of the hospital would be in duty every day ,O))))
I thinks the ghosts and no on-line delivery would send your Mama screaming by first light. Very interesting, and love the twin dragons. 🙂
I have sailed Raz du Sein in benign conditions, and that was an adventure. I was off-watch and in the “Dog-berth” (translated from Dutch “hondekooi” meaning quarter-berth) when things got lively. I was up in record time. Don’t ever want to sail there with any kind of wind against tide. The light houses were literally life-savers in the days before GPS. Beautiful coast all around Brittany though, especially in the summer.
Whoah…what a scary lighthouse….that our Mama totally want to see now!! We would love to hear those scary sounds!!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
What a fascinating lighthouse legend. Davy Jones’ locker was no doubt angry there was some safety offered for sailors.
We think anyone who would take the job….in the olden days….must have been slightly mad to begin with…or hiding out from some horrible crime. A fabulous lighthouse, Phenny and Nelly!
I’m going for the haunted stories!
Abby Lab
That is quite a spooky lighthouse tale. I love lighthouses but sadly have only seen one or two. I am enjoying seeing everyone thanks to the LLB gang.
that is an interesting story about the spooky lighthouse. I don’t think I would like to spend the night there.
What a cool and interesting place! We don’t think we would be as brave as your Mom and Dad and want to stay there though!
ooooh! A haunted lighthouse! We would not want to live there
hugs
Hazel & Mabel
That is the best lighthouse story of the day. Thanks for sharing it with us
Oh what a spooky story. We don’t want to live there if mom is going to go nutso on us. The stairs would be fun to run up and down though.
Shoko and Tyebe
Ha ha!!! Your dad’s reason for wanting to live there is hilarious!!!!
Good to see this. Thanks
What a wonderful place ! Ghosts have a really good taste for their houses MOL ! Purrs
This sure is an interesting lighthouse you boys found. We bet you two would have fun running around the island.
There was much hissing, merowing, barking of dogs and cat screaming going on at our crib last night…my Mom says she would love to live there (with the ghosts) as it would be easier to sleep, and much less hairy – as she would leae us all here.
She wants to know where she can sign up!
