a bad thing happened to me wednesday  as we were on the way home from a walk. Suddenly a lab-mix ran over the street and without a warning he attacked me…

I did nothing wrong and I was on my leash as this dog came out of the blue and jumped at me… he bit in my harness and not in my shoulder and…

…fortunately the staff and the owner went between me and the other dog and the owner of that dog grabbed him by the neck  and pulled him away from me… I’m ok, no blood nor bite marks, but I was shocked and full of fears as we went home… The owner excused and said his dog dislikes other males, but isn’t that one reason more to keep him on a leash in the middle of the village with the streets and the traffic? He wore the leash around his neck like a necklace instead to attach it to his dog… and in retrospective the mama would like to grab the two ends of that leash around his neck  and  to pull as hard as she can….

I went home with the tail between my legs and  I hid  under my blanket and the mama was completely pixxxed… she fears that I can become aggressive or reactive too when I see other dogs or that I become a fear biter…

Butt it seems everything is good, in the late afternoon I went to the park and I played with my buddy Humphreylike always …… we hope that we will not cross the way of such careless people again and the mama will follow the advice of da fb-friends to be armed and prepared for such a case from now on. It is sad that some people have a wet cookie instead a brain and we can only try to prevent the worst…

Oh Dear da Phenny, this is so scray,I always afraid of this kind of attacks. But I am so glad to hear that you didn’t get any wound, etc. Yes, I know the fear is another part of wound… But you will be fine, The owner of the dog should be careful for next time. I can guess how your human mama was feeling, But I am sure, you both will be feeling better soon. Angels be with you always there, rest of the day, have a nice and enjoyable time and happy weekend, Love & Hugs, nia

  3. O-M-D dear Phenny. That soundz so horrid. That iz sumthin’our mom really worriez’bout since she haz a little problem with walkin’n not fallin’sumtimez. I, Lady Shasta, wood probably git really scared an’not shure what Miss Maizie wood do. Our mom gitz really mad when hoo-minz allow their doggiez to b off-leash. She sed to tell your mom that she wood pull that leash that the guy wuz wearin’over this way an’your mom cood pull it your way. We all r just so furry much happee that u or your mom wuzn’t hurt (x-cept the ego).

There are always those ****wits who think rules don’t apply to them; like keeping the leash on whilst walking streets. And if he knows of the issue – keep the leash on everywhere!!! DP, I’s so glad you were able to still enjoy your playtime later… Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Oh poor Phenny! That is a horrible, horrible thing to happen! I never attack other dogs and I would make you welcome here! Also, when we go to town, #1 always keeps me on a leash. We are glad there were no injuries.

  6. Sorry to hear about your experience Phenny 😦 Any owner who doesn’t trust their dog should never let it off the leash. Keep being a happy, carefree fellow!

  7. Edie Chase says:

I’m glad you and your Mama weren’t hurt. Everyone makes mistakes, but that owner knew his dog was dangerous.

  8. Princess Leah says:

Oh nose!!!! Dearest Phenny and peeps I want to run over and hugs you all!!!!! Phenny you are such a sweetie pie pleeeeeeease don’t change ‘cos after all isn’t it much more funs playing wiv Humphrey than being a nasty doggie??? Well, more a nasty owner fur not looking after his doggie properly ‘cos I blame the owners not the pup don’t you?

  9. Dear Phenny my friend – it is very sad that people don’t do the right thing when taking their pups for a walk – all should be on leash so there are no accidents….it’s just dangerous to NOT use a leash – animals could run out in to the road, or in your case attack another animal for no reason…..gentle control is BEST. I think it’s sad but it appears that you being the gentle soul you are, handled it so well and it sounds like you have realized (because you are a smart boy!) that it was a “one off” and not all animals are aggressive with you. So sorry this happened but glad you did not get bitten or hurt other than your feelings. I’m sending you a special hug………I hope you get it!

    Love, Teddy

Dear Sweet Da Phenny I am so very very very sorry to read this and I send so many kitty kisses and mom sends loving hugs to you ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. It must have been a very scary scene. Shame on the sorry excuse for an owner. With all the love and positive experiences you have had I’m predicting after a few days you will forget this.
This makes me so sad that such a sweet boy had to have this happen.
Love and kisses from your kittty friend.
    Madi and mom

  11. cecilia07 says:

PS I’m so very thankful you were not injured….!!!!!

  12. Emmadog says:

It’s usually those with the really violent dogs that let them roam. So glad you are alright and nothing happened. I’m sure you will forget about it and go on being a happy boy.

  13. grannyK says:

I hope you gave him a piece of your mind! So glad you are okay

  14. saymber says:

I am so sorry that happened! A couple of years ago our Spot and I got rushed by two pit bulls and thankfully a giant angel named Chris came and scared them away. We were so scared. I am so glad nobody was hurt physically but I can tell you, there is some after shocks from things like that happening to you. It’s important to put it out of the mind for future walks as dogs can read energy. Love and hugs to you guys. So brave.

  15. weggieboy says:

How fortunate Phenny wasn’t harmed! I agree – that dog should be restrained on a leash, perhaps muzzled, too! More importantly, till the behavior toward other male dogs is changed, the dog needs to be put through obedience training. There is no excuse for accepting aggressive behaviors in one’s pets, especially when it can result in serious harm to other people’s dogs, maybe even humans.

  16. So glad you’re okay, Phenny. That’s scary stuff and shouldn’t happen if dogs are on leashes as they should be when out in public. We had a similar incident happen with our first rescue dog and it was both scary and made me very angry. Fortunately, she wasn’t hurt badly either.

  17. So wait a minute…. the owner was wearing the leash around HIS neck? A human who needs to wear his own leash probably shouldn’t be taking care of a dog in the first place…

  18. Brian says:

I am so sorry that happened to you Phenny, some humans are just idiots.

  19. Charles Huss says:

I’ll et he doesn’t pick up after his dog either.

  20. Lee and Phod says:

We are so sad such a scary thing happened. We are glad you were not hurt. We feel bad for that other dog having to live with such a stupid human.m

  21. We saw this on FB and feel so bad that it happened to you. Mom says some people let their dogs loose at the park she walks in and they can run right up to people. So wrong and totally illegal here. We’re sending (((hugs))) to you AND your Mom because that had to be very scary for her too.

    The Florida Furkids

  22. Gosh buddy, I am so sorry. That surely isn’t going to help you in the show ring with lots of dogs around. People are dumb! I’m glad your ok and keep playing with your buddy Humphrey and concur your fears.

  23. Piglove says:

You show them to me brother. I’m on the way. Just as soon as I can figure out how to get a piggy passport. I’m glad you are safe. Sending you bunche of love. XOXO – Bacon

  24. The OP Pack says:

Whew!!! We are so glad you are OK, Phenny. Mom always watches for loose dogs when we walk because it can get out of control very quickly. There is a dog along our walk route whose peeps never keep him confined in their fenced yard. He races up and down the sidewalk and terrorizes everyone who tries to walk by. Many have complained to Animal Control, but we can’t figure out why they don’t do what is right. Once in a while the owner has a leash on the dog but it just drags on the ground with no human attached – that is NOT what the leash law means. Grrrrr.

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  25. Oh Phenny, we’re so sorry you had such a bad experience! Loose dogs are our nightmare too. Momma keeps a close eye out for them and turns us right around if she spots one ahead. But sometimes they just come out of nowhere! That dog’s owner needs to be neutered or something. Grrrr.

  26. I hate owners like that. My friend’s son has a pitbull female that hates other females. She will attack them for no reason. They have not broken her of this habit. It’s hard on other well behaved dogs. You need more than a soft cookie brain to own a dog! I hope the mama thrashed him with her tongue.

  27. I am so happy you bounced back from that awful situation. Going and playing with your friend was probably the best thing. A good experience now to replace the bad. I know with your Mom and Dad’s help you will remain the fun loving, trusting pup you are!

  28. Mrs P says:

Grrrrr some folks !! you & your Mama take care xx

  29. Amy says:

Poor Phenny. We had our own bad incident at the dog park with Riley several years ago. 3 attacks closely timed together by two bigger dogs and sweet, innocent Riley became the aggressor from then on out. I heartily regret not getting him out of there immediately after the first attack. I am so glad you are ok and not psychologically harmed, either. Tell the Mama to get name and contact info and report this person to the officials if it should happen again.

  30. Kismet says:

Labrador Retriever? Must be a French Canadian.

  31. Dogs should be on the leash always. You never know how dogs react.

  32. I am so sad knowing you were attacked for no reason Phinny. Unfortunately it is true that unneutered male dogs will often attack other males who are also not neutered. Hope you feel better

  33. Oh no! This is so sad for you and your peeps, Phenny. Dogs shouldn’t be walking without leashes. It’s not right.

  34. Dang dog….the owner should be kicked in the ankles. We are so happy you are in good health after the attack.

    Shoko and Kali

  35. Bella, Roxy and Dui says:

There are some DUMB peeps in this world. Can’t believe a dog known for attacking other dogs wasn’t on a lead. Glad you weren’t seriously hurt, Phenny. You need some extra treats.

  36. I am sorry you got attacked but glad you weren’t hurt. The owner admitted he doesn’t like other males, so as well as being on a leash he should be muzzled in public.

  37. lapaylor says:

omg. This has happened to me so many times. The stupid owners!!! The latest was a pit bull and the owner said, “awe Bruce that isn’t nice” wha???? It happened here in the new ‘hood and the owner apologized and said he’d watch him closer from now on. Much better response, and the dog only growled not bit. But I’ve seen several dogs off leash here and we’re in a crowded area and it’s not okay. Poor mama, more scared than even Phenny as she knows the damage that could have happened. I wish Phenny and Milo could meet and play.

  38. edgar62 says:

I am so sorry you were attacked, but so very glad that you were not injured. Poor mama, she must have gotten a heck of a fright and she would have been worried about you. Benji were attacked at the beach last year. Some teenagers came to help us. They used a ‘traditional”method of dealing with bullies – they threw sand in its face. The lady got her dog, said nothing but got quickly into her car and drove away before we could do anything. The fine for this at the beach is $2000.

  39. Jan K says:

This makes us so sad and mad all at the same time. Stupid people. We are just glad that it looks like you might still be OK with other dogs, Phenny. It might just take your Mom longer to get over this than you, at least I know that’s how I’d be!!

  40. Sorry about your experience. Those lab mixes can be big bullies. You have to learn how to howl louder.

  41. Foley Monster, Pocket and River Song says:

I am so glad you were not hurt physically or emotionally. Your parents must have been very scared. I hate people who let their dogs loose. Some dogs always get hurt

  42. Cupcake says:

Oh, Aargh, P. That was a scary experience for you and your parents. What a thing to have to go through! Once a mean dog came out of nowhere and bit my neck. Mom could barely get me home because her legs turned to jelly from fear and her shoe was broken from trying to kick the dog off me. I had to have surgery and everything because of the puncture marks. Ugh… I’m glad you’re OK.

    Love and licks,

  43. says:

Scary and unnecessary. I support licensing of dog owners rather than dogs. You have to show knowledge of how to drive a car, why not to own a dog?

  44. Marv says:

Oh Phenny! Such a bed thing to have happened! I am so glad you were not hurt!! Some dog owners should NOT have dogs!!!
My Doggie sister Cinnamon is terrified of most other dogs because of the same thing, But she is fear aggressive…she barks like mad at other dogs and runs at them because she is afraid one will bite her again! It has made it hard to walk her here in Vancouver. Just this last year she has made a a couple of new dog friends in Midway, but it has taken a long time.

  45. We are so upset about this attack! That human is lucky your mom didn’t bop them on the head. I am soooooo glad that you are okay.

  46. So thankful that you were not physically hurt. Can’t believe the owner lets his dog run loose knowing this might happen.

  47. dorysbackyard says:

Mama gets sooooooo mad at hose cookie brain people who let their doggies offleash!! We are so glad there was no blood and you are back to yourself!
    Arty, Jakey & Rosy

  48. That sure was terrible what that dog did to you Phenny. We’re glad you had a good play session with your friend later. We hope you never run into that bad doggie and his stupid owner again.

  49. ATCAD says:

We are so sorry that happened to you, we have been extremely lucky on our walks that all the off leashed dogs we have meet have been friendly. Fenris also has this magic ability to intimidate other dogs, it came in handy at dog obedience school.

Yep, the trainer had a rottweiler that was aggressive, she kept her in a pen during class. Well the class was working with their dogs off leash and the trainer had asked her friend to put some water in the pen with the rottweiler. The friend accidentally let the rottweiler out and she came flying straight at Mommy and Fenris growling Mommy was terrified, but Fenris stood in front of Mommy and the hair on the back of his neck stood up straight but he didn’t make a sound just stared at the rottweiler and she came skidding to a stop and sat down. Apparently Fenny convinced her that attacking HIM would be a bad idea and he was just a puppy then.

  50. Christine says:

You are a good boy. We talked about this before, I know your mama will growl for you and one day you are going to be the boss of the neighborhood

  51. We hope that owner learned a lesson! Butt mostly we are happy you are OK!

    Keep Calm & Bark On!

    Murphy & Stanley

  52. Aw, Phenny, I’m sorry you had to experiencence that bad owner and his dog! But I’m glad you got over your fears! You’re a good boy! I wish I’d been there – I’d have helped the mama wrap the leash around that pea-brain’s neck!!

  53. We were shocked when we read it on FB, and we’re glad you’re OK and could have a nice play session with one of your buddies after that. We’re sorry for our lack of comments last week, but Claire had a very busy week, and she finished it with an awful migraine from Friday evening to this morning. Purrs

  54. I’m with your mum, Phenny. Yet another dumb a$$ dog owner. DADO

  55. hello phenny its dennis the vizsla dog hay that is terribul that peepul ar so stoopid!!! i thawt maybe it wuz just heer ware we had sutch stoopid peepul but i gess yoo hav got them too!!! i am glad to heer that yoo did not suffer any damadj to yore fizzikals or mentals!!! ok bye

  56. Deziz World says:

Oh Phenny, we are soooooo sorry this happened to you. Are there not leash laws in your country? Your mommy should sue the pants off that doggies owner. Labs usually arent’ mena like that. His purrson might be a bad purrson on top of bein’ an idiot. We’re sendin’ hugs and purrayers fur your to be brave and strong and to ignore that bad ‘sperience.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

  57. I hope you’re not traumatized anymore! What a crazy person for not having a leash on their dog!!!

  58. MrJackFreckles/Pipo & Angel Minko says:

    How scary:(
Hope you will not have lasting ill effects…but really some peeps need to get with it when they have their dogs out…or maybe not have one at all. Sheesh!
