Look what  we found while wandering around Lake Sammy:

…have you ever seen such tiny toads? Thre were thousand or millions of this tiny hoppers… That are common toads or european toads (bufo bufo). The kind you should avoid if you are a dog. They are poisonous for dogs and it worst case you have to see the vet when you tocuh them with your nose or when your lick at that guys…. when ya kiss a frog you can get a prince, to kiss a toad brings a fat vet bill to you…  just saying…

…the mama placed a lighter next to them to show how itsy bitsy tiny they were…

…and we tiptoed around them to make sure they will not end as pancakes…

… but it was like a little wonder to see a gazillion of mini-toads on their way from the lake to the meadows and bushes… and even when they are dangerous… we wish them a long and happy toads-life…

…and here come the flowers…

…we start with da hydrangeas….

… and more hydrangeas..

…and that’s the arrangement in front of our mayors office…

… the drive way with the french flag and another flag got a little asian flair with different grasses…

… they had huge bamboo sticks there furst, but they were goners, so they had to find another flowers for that big pots…

…then we have more hydrangeas/hortensias…

… and some more…

…and at last me and the dad next to the bargain bin flowers the mama bought…

  1. Oh Phenny those tiny toads are amazing but I don’t see how you could avoid accidentally stepping on them if they are EVERYWHERE. Too bad they make you sick cuz they would be like “treats on legs” otherwise. The hydrangeas in your kraal are absolutely GORGEOUS. My Mom never tried to grow them but they are so beautiful maybe she should. Happy Bastille Day!

    Love, Teddy

Did I mention I had a whole border of them in my house in OZ??? The ornamental grasses look good too – as does the window ornamentation…&*>… hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Beautiful displays for Bastille Day! Even the toads 😉

  4. Those hydrangeas are fabulous! That type (macrophylla) stay small here, unless you’re a hydrangea whisperer.
Cute little frogs! Or toads if they are bufo bufo. I couldn’t get a close enough look.
    Enjoy your weekend 😘

Hydrangeas are so fussy! We don’t have the right soil where I live, and can grow these beautiful plants only if one sacrifices a sheep (per proper ritual – do it wrong and…!) and do soil voodoo to confuse their roots into absorbing what they need to grow and produce those lovely blue flowers.

If you get one to grow and flower in blue, one’s neighbors report you to the church authorities for practicing witchcraft, your “luck” is sooo suspicious.

Those toads are useful in magic rituals associated with getting hydrangeas to grow as well. It’s just easier to let the yard go to dandelions!

  6. That is the tiniest toad we have ever seen. We will try and keep Hailey from kissing it (she likes to kiss toads . . . .) the flowers are beautiful. Have a Bon 14th.

  7. Very pretty! I love the glimpses of your country that you share with us!

  8. grannyK says:

Love your photos! I live in a dreary town with not much to look at. Your posts cheer me up!

  9. Beautiful, beautiful flowers! I love the tiny toads… we have them here too… lots of them!

  10. Amy says:

Happy Bastille Day, Phenny! I believe those toads are going to grow up to be at least twice as long as your Mom’s lighter. And still poisonous to you.

  11. Brian says:

That was a nice out n’ about Phenny and that toad sure is a wee one!

  12. For being so little, those toads can do a lot of damage! YIKES!
Mom LOVES hydrangeas! Thank you for the smile, Phenny☺

  13. cecilia07 says:

Oh Da Phenny I have never seen a frog or a toad and for sure now that I know some are poisonous I’m glad. Good buddy you stay away from that itty bitty hopper.
The hydrangeas are gorgeous and Happy Bastille Day to you all
Hugs madi your bfff and Mom

  14. Happy Bastille Day to all of you. Those toads are really tiny!

  15. Goose says:

Oh little brother those flowers are oh so beautiful. And those tiny tiny toads. How in the world did you not chase them. Maybe you could play leap toad with them. I tell you what I have never seen such a small toad. Maybe I need glasses to make sure I don’t lick a toad. They say BIG things come in small packages. I think the toads work for the vet. Give one a kiss and you can kiss your bank account goodbye.

  16. Kismet says:

    Liberté, Egalité, Merdité toujours.

  17. Bon 14 Juillet Da Phenny! Those are all such pretty flowers but we have to say that is quite a display of hydrangea.

  18. They look like tiny bugs!

  19. Happy Bastille Day ♥ I love hydrangeas but as always killed mine with my non-magical brown thumb. We had an invasion of tiny frogs many years ago. They were so cute ☺

  20. Happy Happy Bastille Day Sweet Furiends!!! xoxo

  21. Thanks for telling us about those toads. We had no idea. And thank you for the lovely flower pictures

  22. CarolMaeWY says:

Didn’t realize the toads were so small until your mama put the lighter next to one.
Your walk was a gorgeous one. I love all the blue hydrangea. Even your mamas contribution is pretty.

  23. Anarette says:

We love the toads. We have them here too but they are not poisonous. The flowers are so pretty!

  24. Happy Bastille Day friends. I don’t think we’ve ever seen frogs so tiny.

We had pink hydrangas before the winter killed them. I like the blue best.

  25. Two French Bulldogs says:

    Did you kiss it?

  26. Cupcake says:

Smart move not to eat the tiny toads, P. Yikes. Mom saw lots of tiny guys like that when she was in Florida, USA. They were EVERYWHERE as soon as the sun started to go down. She said they were slimy and icky and gooey and gross. They covered the ground and stuck to walls and doors and rocks and THE CAR! Gah! She hates Florida to this day.

    Love and licks,

  27. We think toad sandwiches sound terrible. Probably more safe to water the hydrangeas! LOL Pee. S. Gosh they are incredibly fabulous! Liberté égalité fraternité . 🇫🇷

  28. I love that little toad, Phenny. I wonder how my Fly is doing in our former house❤ The flowers, and you, are just gorgeous today and your final picture says more than a million words. Excellent❤Pawkisses for a Happy FurriDay😘❤😻

  29. Bella, Roxy and Dui says:

  32. The OP Pack says:

We are guessing you were a good Phenny and steered your snooter and mouth clear of those toads. Your flowers are beautiful, especially all the hydrangeas. And your bargain flowers were a great bargain since they are really lovely.

    Woos – Lightning and Misty

  33. We have much bigger roads here – ones that could eat your little toads for breakfast. And they’re so ugly that they’re oooooogly!

  34. edgar62 says:

Those hydrangeas are beautiful. Wish I could grow them up in my corner of the world. I did try but they just all died. Oh well…

  35. DailyMusings says:

oh how I love hydrangeas! They are my favorite. I have never seen such tiny toads before!

  36. Jan K says:

The hydrangeas are beautiful! Ours didn’t blossom this year, we’re not sure why….but I want to get them to turn blue (I think you have to add something to the soil).
We see a lot of those little toads around the yard. I’ve heard they are bad for dogs, so I usually try to scoop them up with the pooper scooper and relocate them outside the dog yard. 🙂

    • ATCAD says:

Add acid (you can get fertilizer for acid loving plants) to get them to be blue. For most French hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), the flower color indicates the pH of the soil. In strongly acid soil (pH below 6), flowers turn blue. In alkaline soil (pH above 7), flowers turn pink or even red. In slightly acid or neutral soil (pH 6 to 7), blooms may be purple or a mix of blue and pink on a single shrub. Keep in mind that selections vary in their sensitivity to pH. For example, ‘Ami Pasquier’ stays crimson in all but the most acid soil and ‘Purple Tiers’ remains purple. And white Hydrangeas are always white.

  37. Oh I would have wanted to get too close to those tiny little toads!

  38. ATCAD says:

The hydrangeas are lovely, ours never do that well. We think those toads are poisonous to cats too and wind their humans up with vet bills

  39. Emmadog says:

We have a huge white Hydrangea bush out front. We call them snowball bushes here in the north! Frogs and toads are scary according to mom. She does not like them poisonous or not!

  40. Very pretty flowers! Our mom is not a fan of the hoppy things but they are small!

    Your Pals,

    Murphy & Stanley

  41. Deziz World says:

  42. Cute little toads can’t believe they are dangerous. Gman spits when he kisses a toad. Bargain bin flowers are the best!

  49. The hydrangeas are your national bloom??? BOL! They are beautiful though. Petcretary cannot seem to grow any kind of those…so its fun to see them in all their glory in your kraal.
Hope you had a happy and fun Bastille Day. Here on the radio they played lots of French music honoring the events of that day/time.
