guess what? After we met Bill&Jean in Pawris, we started the next day in da early morning to normandy.

…I was a fabulous passenger in da car… just saying…

…and after we arrived at our fab gite …

… I immediately dragged my dad to da beach …. you can read all about our howl-i-day-house and normandy at the canadian cats, there is also the recipe of da world bestest fishcake we cookered together…

… and the next day we started to see the american cemetery at Colleville-sur- mer… it rained cats&dogs and it was as ark as… well ya know…

Dogs are not allowed at the cemetery of Colleville-sur-mer, so me and the mama waited in the car…..then we drove to the  cemetery of the  Canadian heroes at Beny -sur -mer.

…I furst met this little pup there and it told me that dogs are allowed at this  cemetery, YAY!

…..and so we entered the cemetery …

…and  we wrote our names in da visitors book… mine too! of course….

…. and like a miracle…

…flat Shoko appeared and she joined us, because cats are allowed there too…

… and then we took a photo together… and see what they wrote in that stone….

YES, we never will furgot those who fought for our freedom…

…those who came all da long way from Canada…

…and who died so very young….

…then we walked to the monument there…

…and I’ve got  a photo together with Shoko…

…and we lighted the Blogville candles on the left and the right of a wreath other visitors placed there … …

…and after Jean and Bill put the little  canadian flags in the ground…

….as a greeting from home  for all the brave men there…

…and after  da pawlice entered the cemetery, because they escorted a bus from canadian embassy….

…we headed off to the german  batterie at Longues-sur-Mer, the weather was still awful, but we had a nice walk around  the old command posts, the canons and the trenches and bunkers…

…and I posed with the mama in front of a tank at Overlord Museum…

…where my dad bought me that fabulous Cricket clicker thingy…

… we will never furget the name of the heroes and we will never furget this wonderful time we had together with Bill&Jean… I don’t know when or if we will meet again (we hope we will!!!)…but I know that we made a memory furever and ever this way and that’s what counts…

  3. Lovely post Phenny. Glad that Shoko could join you all too in paying respects.

  4. Wow……that part of your visit with Shoko’s Mom and Dad sure was interesting…..and memorable like the rest of the time you all spent together! The place you stayed there was adorable and cozy…..and at least the rain didn’t bother you the WHOLE time – you had some sun when you visited the memorial. The cemetery is beautifully kept with all the little individual gardens by the graves……..I’m so happy you got to go too Da Phenny and spend time with friends. You all made a lot of GREAT memories together!

    Love, Teddy

  6. Wow…what a visit to an historical area. Mom and dad were overcome with the images that were before them. Can you imagine running up the beach with shells firing at you? Mom and dad wish they could see Mark, Katty and Da Phenny again. We never know what’s going to happen in this life… Thank goodness flat me and Phenny got to be out and about in the cemetery. These memories of a fun and happy trip with fellow blogites was unbelievable.

  7. You do look like the perfect car passenger, P. That was a very touching trip to honor soldiers. The gifts were lovely. Mom tried to make me learn with a clicker. But she gave up before I understood what was happening.

Lovely post. Also a sad post when you think of the many young who died to protect and defend the freedoms we take so much for granted today. In many public schools students don’t get taught any history because it’s not considered relevant to modern society – yesterday is not important, tomorrow will take care of itself, all that matters is today. I agree you made some great memories that you will all treasure.

  37. I am very impressed. Those are historical and solemn sites. You put your puppy instincts away and acted like a gentleman.

  38. noofmitchell says:

What a trip for a dog! The photos were informative. Makes you appreciate the sacrifices that these young soldiers made for us. Thanks for sharing glimpses into the past.

  42. My dad landed on Normandy. He and my mom did return there during retirement.
I appreciate the pictures of the area.
They were all so young – so determined – and so brave. May we guard what they fought and died for.
    Thank you for remembering them.

  43. Phenny, thank you so much for telling us all about your visit to Normandy and showing all those fine pictures of the beautifully tended war cemeteries. So many who lost their lives were so young. Especially poignant this week as we are thinking about all the youngsters killed in Manchester on Monday night, victims of a new and different sort of war.
    Wishing peace to all.
    Gail and Bertie.

  44. Lovely photos of your day out. So sad that so many lost their lives there.

  45. Jan K says:

What a wonderful and memorable trip. We are so glad you and flat Shoko were allowed in to help in paying tribute to the soldiers!

  46. Don’t know why we Americans have to be so prissy about allowing dogs within the cemetery…ridiculous.

I would love to visit Normandy some day! Looks like y’all had a great time!

  47. Anarette says:

Wow, you are quite the traveler already Phenny. And well behaved; high five! Benji

Petcretary is a Canadian too…and its so poignant to be in a cemetary filled with all those heroes who were not able to go home:(

She has been in Groesbeek, another Canadian war cemetery, in the Netherlands.

May we not need such huge burial places evfur again.

How cool that you went there with your Canadian guests.
