Hell-o
to a new epawsode of Bacon’s and Fozzie’s SHOPPING AROUND THE WORLD.
This time we shopped stuff to make a thanksgiving meal. That’s not a howliday here, butt I grabbed the chance to get some turkey. My momma said because it says shopping around the world we will have a “cosmopolitan” meal with a little uncommon sidedishes to demonstrate that we are one world… sounds good, right?… butt it’s also because my mother can’t stand mashed potatoes, she is a picky thingy… and my dad is not allowed to come near mashed potatoes since he throw a firecracker in the mashed potato bowl… and NOT as he was a kid, he was adult that time … at least by age…
and so we decided to make turkey and potato dumplings (recipe here) with a recipe from my mommas granny and red cabbage, prepared by Mr. Schlichting, ready to eat :o)
we need:
EGGS pack with 10 pieces 1.19 euros = $$ 1.26
MILK 1 liter 0.66 euros = $$ 0.70
POTATOES 1 kilo 1.99 euros = $$ 2.11
RED CABBAGE 500 gram 2.49 = $$ 2.64
TURKEY 1 kilo 3.99 =$$ 4.24
My momma picked turkey OSSO BUCCO, because she thought 1 whole turkey is too much for only one Weimaraner. She has NO CLUE about my 7 stomachs… OSSOBUCCO is the meat around the long bones or the shanks and it’s cut in pieces…
furst we throw the meat in a roasting pan and we brown it with full speed ahead for some minutes while we preheat our oven.
then we open the window to find the way through our kitchen and we place the pan in our pre heated oven. While the oven works we can peel the potatoes and then we cut them in pieces to boil them:
en passant we can open the bag with the red cabbage, put it in a pot and warm it up with low temperature, ours is ready to eat, you just have to warm it…
then we cut an ole baguette in small pieces what we roast with some butter in a pan….till our potatoes are ready.
after we removed the water from our potatoes we screamed for our dad who has to smash the cooked potatoes…. because my mom’s poor repaired gripping device is no longer made for such jobs…
now we need some flour, cornstarch and two of our eggs what we mix with that smashed potatoes after they cooled down a little…
then we wet our paws (noooo, you haven’t to wash them furst , they will be clean automatically now) grab some of that hot potato mash, put some of that roasted bread in the middle and form a ball what we throw in a pot with seeding water for 15 minutes…
while that dumplings wait in the seeding water we can prepare our meat with removing the bones and we can prepare the gravy…
…it was an old custom in the house of my mommas granny that the bestest of the house got the leftovers of the roasted bread… so this time the bread goes… to my dad! ACK!
butt I’ve got some carrots instead and he NOT!
and I’ve got 3 small dumplings too…
just for me! ha!
and I’ve got my plate furst…
my momma got only nekked dumplings with some red cabbage, while my daddy threw the turkey, the bread crumbs with the dumplings and the red cabbage in his 7 stomachs..
because this meal was made for me, my momma used no spices and therefore they had to throw the pepper and the salt later on their food. My momma used Fleur de Sel from Camarque this time what’s a sacrilege in brittany, because we have our own salt pans here and we never use other salt than ours… and while we’re on it, salt is not always salt, if you can, use a fleur the sel no matter if breton or not, there is really a difference… trust me… even my momma failed as she wanted to show the opposite to the whole world …. and that means a lot when she is NOT right with something…
AND NOW: THE MISPURCHASE OF THE MONTH:
Well, ya know my mother is as crazy as a box of frogs and there is nothing what’s embarrassing enough fur her…
Look what she found as she waddled through her junkstore:
a passport what was between all that junk of a bargain bin. Furst my mother thought that someone threw his passport away or someone lost that thingy while fishing for trashures… and my mother thought she will inform the sales pawson… but while she turned to look for one of the junkstore staff she looked at that passport again and she noticed the emblem:
Who to hell has a BANANA in his national emblem? Cuba? Banana Republic? And while pondering about that problem, she grabbed the passport to take a look inside of that thingy…
…. and then the penny dropped… It was just a notebook butt made like a passport. And because the price was 1.20 euros ($$ 1.24) the passport landed in her shopping basket.
Because it’s from ABSURDISTAN and I think my momma would make a great citizen of that country…
HAVE A SUPER THANKSGIVING MENU ALL
What a marvellous thanksgiving meal Easy! Love the dumplings. Absurdistan couldn’t be a more apt country 😀
WOWZERS…..that Thanksgiving meal your Mom and Dad made is delicious looking – I’m sure all 21 of your stomachs (assuming you all have seven each???) are filled up with delicious food now. My Mom and Dad will be stuffing themselves with stuffing tomorrow while I STARVE at home…..sniff sniff. The dumplings look particularly good – Mom is going to try those here at Christmas. Cool that your Mom can travel to Absurdistan now that she has her passport…….!!!!!

OMDs Easy your mom is a wonderful cook. We loved how she made dumplings AMAZING. AND she did a fantastic job of presentation on your plate.
Banana as an emblem was our first thought too. Funny funny

Throwing a fire cracker in the mashed potatoes is a good way to have your passport to Absurdistan rejected these days.
I just paid $5.00 for 18 eggs, I’m coming over by you!!! What a fabulous meal you got, it looked and smelled yummy. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, I am so thankful that you are in my life!!!

Yummy dinner!
Gotta tell you that dinner looks better than many Americans! I want that passport! Dual citizenship for all!
It sounds like you should be very thankful for that delicious meal. The boys will get some turkey and dressing. If they look really pitiful (which they will) a small sliver of pumpkin pie will land in their bowls. Your eggs are much cheaper than ours. ☺ Happy Thanksgiving to y’all. ♥ ♥
That’s a wayyyy special Thanksgiving meal, Easy! I’m sure you enjoyed it, it looked so beautiful too! So your staff got the leftovers then, right? As it should be… 😉
That was a great dinner. SHE says it’s a bit fiddly for HER….she’s definitely a one pan cook. But SHE loves red cabbage. We have a few jars on hand because Aldi was doing a German thing during Oktober.
We bet your local salt doesn’t have horses and bulls running around on it….maybe it adds to the flavour.
We could smell all that good stuff over here

You are so very lucky to have your own “Thanksgiving” Meal, it looks like you really enjoyed it! Great recipe and step by step guide Easy. Your Mum really is as mad as a box of frogs, laughing so much at that passport notebook! Love and Licks from your furiend Frank XxxxxxxxX
Loved your meal Easy. Us girls don’t like carrots though, we’re not keen on potatoes with hard bread either but that turkey is right up our alley! Yummy.
hahaha…your mom is our kind of mom. Ridiculous to the absurd….sounds like our mom….I gotta include dad too. He thinks the meatloaf he made and hacked into chunks just didn’t do what he wanted it to do. Truth be told he cut that sucker of a meatloaf when it was way too hot. So they look like they’re eating garbage meat now. hahaha
Hugs,
Shoko
Oh boy….those potato dumplings sure look nummy…I think I will have my Mama put them on our Thanksgiving menu!!
Smileys!

Well, that looks like a wonderful turkey feast to us, Easy. You are welcome to come join us tomorrow for our Thanksgiving dinner – we will set a place for you.
Mom has a recipe for some candies she wants to make for Christmas. It calls for fleur de sel – that is super $$$$$ here.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Woos – Ciara and Lightning
HaHaHa! I think I would fit in just right in ABSURDISTAN too. 😀
Wow, what a yummy meal! Our plain old American Thanksgiving meal seems kind of boring now.
Hmmm…we might have to find some of that special salt. The Momz is a salt addict and that sounds like it might also be better than plain old American salt!
That all looks very tasty! HA! Love that passport-wanna-be-notebook…what a fun purchase!
All I can say is YUMMY! I thought I smelled something really good in the air when I was outside today. Now I know where all the good smells were coming from! :o)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Next week we will be right at the source of Rotkohl and Speisestärke. We move to Germany this weekend. Me, Disa, Schlafmütz, Miniputz and Farbexplosion. Nice passport. Where did you find that useless but entertaining passport? I’d love to have one of those.
at Noz, do you have this store in your area?
Germany
Mongo like carrots too!
That looks like a feast. LOL on the passport.
