THANKSGIVUKKAH THURSDAY
Today our jewish friends celebrate Hanukkah, and a lot of my friends in the U and the S and the A celebrate Thanksgiving.
In France we celebrate … rien thursday.
To celebrate a thursday is not really the big deal, so I thought I better will celebrate a THANKSGIVUKKAH with you.
For Thanksgivukkah I thought I will cook a crossover-menu, that means my staff gets jewish food and I’m content with the common turkey thingy.
Traditional for Hanukkah are Latkes. We love Latkes, you can make them in many variations and sizes , here is a site with 87 recipes. Or more. I will use a recipe for one big latka of an old jewish Lady named Babette. She lived in the small Kraal where my mom grew up and when she made Matzah balls or Latkes my mom was the first who occupied Babette’s table. Today we add smoked salmon to our Latkes and a dressing what Mr. Heinz made for us.
You need:
5-6 potatoes, 1 onion, potato flour, 2 eggs, pepper, salt and persil
rasp the potatoes and the onion and squeeze it as best as u can (we used a common sieve, but you can do it with a dish towel too. butt that’s a mess)
then throw the eggs in the bowl with the squeezed potato-onion mix. now add some potato flour ( that’s more a matter of judgement) mix it till it is a smooth gravy, add pepper, salt and persil and put it in a buttered pan. Press it on with a fork till it is flat. Use a moderate heat and let it roast. TRICK: add a package of instant onion soup, so you have the onions and all spices you need.
Now you have time to prepare the turkey menu:
you need: turkey breasts, 2 carrots, 1 potato, a little bit milk
cook the turkey breasts together with a peeled potato and the carrots till they are done.
mash the potato ( have you ever made potato mash from ONE potato? No? Me neither!) and add the milk. Now fill this pulp into a doily and make some piles on a plate. Cut the turkey breast in slices, add the carrots and let it cool down a while.
Now it is time to turn your latka. You can do this with laying a plate on your pan or if you are from Barnum&Bailey you can throw it in the air and catch it with the pan – good luck!
While the other side of your latka roasts you can make some Hanukkah cookies and the most important thing: Hanukkah gelt. You can buy the cookies and the gelt too, butt pawmade is pawmade and that’s always better or at least different.
I used a common short pastry and cut out a Menora, a Dreidel, a cup and a star. For the gelt I used a shot glass and made some circles. The cookies should be placed on a baking plate with baking parchment and they need some minutes in a preheated oven. Some minutes means 10 to 15, not more, or your cookies will look like mine. Now you can decorate them with icing or the decorating pens you can buy in stores (to use an edding is not a good idea). Our cookies look pitiful und I have some doubts that my Hanukkah-gelt will be article eight currency , but it’s the thought what counts, right?
Your Latka should be nearly done now and you can place the smoked salmon on a plate. Now part the Latka in two (nearly) similiar parts and place it on your plate.
Don’t forget to give the turkey menu to the Weimaraner. Now park your butt on the chair and: DIG IN!
BTW: Babette once said who uses a knife to cut the Latkes is not worth them. They only should be dissected with your fork.
Be’te-avon!
Chag Hanukkah Sameach! Happy Thanksgiving! Have a wonderful Thursday
Wow that is so much cooking. We’d never see so much activity in a kitchen around here Mummy is not one of life’s little chefs.
Maybe you can be the chefs for the next event, maybe on christmas. Dogs are very talented, they can make not only Hot Dogs :o)
Wow, you look like you were very busy. Happy everything day ^_^

Easy, you are inspired. If you are careful, you could celebrate a special day every day of the year and get the staff to cook the appropriate feast 😀 Happy Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Thursday, whatever!
Thanks :o) Happy Thursday to you all and to all your passengers :o)
We are hungry now 🙂 HAPPY THANKSGIVUKKAH x
Happy Thanksgivukkah or thursday to you, come over we have enough potatoes for latkes :o)

Gunning the motor on my way Easy!! :)xx
Easy my friend you sure get good eating at your place! I hope you and your staff have an EXTREMELY yummy and fun Thanksgivukkah today. I’m gonna have the same menu you’re having only tomorrow since my parents are deserting me today to visit family BUTTTT they’ve promised to return with abundant FOOD for me tomorrow. WOO HOO I say…….That latke looks delish – my Mom makes them from time to time but your Mom’s looks prettier than my Mom’s. My Mom’s always looks like an accident happened in the frying pan….whoops. I wanted you to know too that since we think about what we’re thankful for today, one of MY biggest “thankfuls” is that I have super nice friends like YOU……and I really, truly mean that!!
Kitty hugs, Sammy
Oh thank you, that was nice :o) Mostly we buy or latkes in store, they are good too. It was a happy coincidence, that this latka-guy was perfect ( 3 forerunners landed in the trashcan). I hope they will bring you whole turkey tomorrow. Happy Thanksgivukkah!
That is the best looking latke I ever saw! Yum! I never knew they’re supposed to be cut with a fork. Happy TurkeyLatkeDay, buddy! xoxo
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Babette said so :o) but the best way to eat them is with your fingers :o) Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
That looks good:-)

janet
Thanks, have a wonderful Thanksgiving too :o)
really beautifulllllllllllllllllll
next year – ask HELL-MUT to come out xo x
love xo xo xo xo
I will buy him such a special lamp-thingy, than he needs no hibernation and he can celebrate with me :o)
I’ll pass on the latkes. I made one using your recipe and followed it to the letter. I cut it with a fork. There’s just too many eggshells in it to be good.
I’ve heard eggshells are good for chicken, then they will lay more eggs. I wonder what will happen when we eat a lot of eggshells….it’s on my to-do list :o)
I have never made the latkes. I have made similar things; I MUST try this. Glad you are having a good Thanksgiving :O) Being thankful is important.
They are really tasty, but mostly we buy them ready for the oven in store :o) Have a great thanksgiving !
Oven ready might be a good idea (no other comment needed on cooking here). I made other potato things, but Cliff likes the tator tots. Of course, they were invented right here in Ontario, Oregon at Ore-Ida foods. I am just glad I never had to be a potato specker there. My mother did that when they first moved here in 1956. They are far more automated, and I not know if the gouge out specks any more.
Oh, reading this post sweet Easy has made us hungry…can we teleport over and eat with you. Thank you for offering your apple tree to Chancy he thinks that was very nice of you. You all have a wonderful day!! Hugs and nose kisses
No problem, come over, I will peel some more potatoes and Chancy can get the apple tree, or if he want, the walnut tree, when we will find an xxl-teleport tunnel :o)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too :o)
HAPPY THANKSGIVUKKAH! Thank you for being such a super friend Easy!!
That looks like some great food!
hugs
Mr Bailey, Hazel & Greta
I hope you had a fabulous day too with 3 giant turkeys :o)
May your Thanksgivukkah be wonderful!
Thanks :o) I hope your at Run a muck ranch was great too, bet it was funny for you and all your kids :o)
OMG, Easy, I have to face a dire dilemma: should I choose the dog menu or the humans’ menu? I think I’d like BOTH!!!!
Turkey with latkes is tasty too :o)
I thought you’d rather offer the carrots to me 🙂
Hope y’all had a lovely Thursday and enjoyed your latkes! I’m about to see how much more stuffing I can fit in my belly before I explode. I’m most thankful for elastic waist pants today. 🙂
Me too I feel like a barrel :o)
What a fabulous “world and culture” united post. Happy celebrations to all! 🙂
Thanks :o) It’s great to celebrate holidays together :o)
Easy I bet that tasted yummyyyy 😀 it looks so good! My favorite meals include potatoes. And onions. And egg. Basically a tortilla. Or mash. Yummm…
(Happy Thanksgivvukah!)
yes, a tortilla would be great… maybe tomorrow when we have a little room in our stomachs :o)
Happy Thanksgiving! and Happy Hanukkah!
Lily
I hope your was great too, Lily :o)
Yummy. I grew up with many Jewish neighbors – we all got to share different foods, songs, and games. The schools in that area also celebrated Thanksgivukkah this week – such a rare occurance of festival of lights and traditional day of thanks won’t happen again for about 800 years! Now that’s special. Happy Thursday to all!
It is :o) I hope all had a super day!
It looks amazing. Bon Appetit!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
Thanks Oskar, I hope you had a giant turkey too :o)

Happy holidays, Easy, so many celebrations in your home yesterday. I never had Latka! I should make myself one or maybe go to the Jewish neighborhood and try one:)
To visit your neighborhood is very clever, that’s the best way to enjoy fabulous food :o)
Can’t wait get the peep to make me a latke!!!!!! A bit one like you made with your own two paws!!!! Wooooot!

Easy are you SURE your Mom isn’t Jewish! OMD you know more about the Jewish religion than my Mom does! May we come over for some of that delicious food? YUM! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Easy-
Next year, we are coming to your house for Thanksgivukkah!!
We’ll bring the carrots 😀
Wyatt and Stanzie
Thanks for the recipe, never heard of that before and it sounds and looks nummy. I too can throw stuff up in the air and flip it. Sometimes I miss and it falls on the floor and I have to quickly put my foot on it so the pooches don’t burn their mouths. Have a great weekend.
My mom can’t throw and flip it… once she needs hours to remove a pancake from the cooker hood :o)
What a fantastic post! That latke looks SO delicious but I am glad that the fancy turkey dinner plate was for YOU, Easy. The Human loves Latkes but has not made them before. She might try this recipe though, maybe for New Years! Me, I’d rather have the turkey.
Me too Spitty, I’m not really the potato-fan. The best way is to buy latkes or similar products in store, it’s much easier :o)
It looks as though you were enjoying your dinner, Easy!
